THE BOAT HALL
In the boat hall you can see the sailing boat (Golden Lady) which Kurt Björklund used for his three one-man sailing-voyages around the world. He “went to sea” at the age of 15. The ship he worked on was torpedoed by the German air force during the 2nd World War outside the British coast. To take revenge on the Germans he joined the British army and took part in Operation Overlord – the invasion of Normandy. He returned to Sweden and Helsingborg some years after the War. After many years of service on the ferries between Helsingborg and Helsingör he started his first one-man trip around the world in 1980 at the age of 59. His last voyage ended in Råå the day before he celebrated his 70th birthday.
In the boat hall you can also, among other things, see the fishing-boat Jäntan with equipment for tuna fishing.
THE MOTOR HALL
Part of repair shop. The museum’s collection of old engines.
Maritime paintings
Among the maritime paintings is a large collection painted by Lars Petter Sjöström. He was born in Råå 1820. He worked as sailor and captain before settling down in England. After a few years in England he returned to Sweden in 1866 and settled down in Malmö. During a period of about 20 years he made 2000 maritime paintings. All of them with a sailing ship, which shows its starboard bow and with the wind coming in on port side. The museum has the largest collection of his paintings in Sweden.
OUTSIDE THE MUSEUM
Old boats, winder for careenage, different anchors and a cannon from the bark Tana.
